A big hot rod extravaganza is happening at the Washington State Fairgrounds in Puyallup. From July 27 through 29, Friday through Sunday at the Mattress Firm ShowPlex and throughout the grounds, feast on close to 3,000 hot rods, customs, trick trucks and muscle cars through 1972 on display. It’s the 31st Pacific Northwest Nationals by Goodguys.

The Goodguys Rod & Custom Association promotes and produces some of the world’s most dynamic auto events. Goodguys is the world’s largest hot rodding association with over 70,000 active members globally. Goodguys events (20 annually) feature thousands of candy colored hot rods and customs, tricked out trucks, mighty muscle cars and regal classics sprawled throughout venues such as lush fairgrounds, super speedways and large outdoor stadiums. The cars, the vendor exhibits, the adrenaline-pumping Goodguys AutoCross, the live entertainment and colorful people create a festive atmosphere charged with electricity.

What to expect at the shows? There’s an Indoor Car Show for those who like to show off their rides under the lights and be eligible for most event awards including Goodguys Builder’s Choice and other high profile honors such as Top 12 awards. There’s Friday Nite Vintage Drags at Pacific Raceways, a full-throttle opportunity to share with thousands of loyal fans and future customers. The Spectre Performance All American Sunday offers car owners to hang with their fellow car club members and show off their rides to thousands of automotive enthusiasts. They’re also eligible for awards and competitions. The Swap Meet & Cars 4 Sale Corral is the selling or shopping experience for enthusiasts.

There are lots more to this show – vendor and manufacturer exhibits, live music entertainment, award shows, a kids’ zone for arts, crafts and games, and a model car-making also for kids. Karshner Memorial Museum

When you want to expose your kids to an engaging educational experience, take them down to the Karshner Memorial Museum. Just a short distance away from our motel in Puyallup’s historical downtown, this museum is a great place to learn about the natural and cultural history of America.

This museum was created by Dr. and Mrs. Warner M. Karshner, who founded it after their son died of polio. They then gifted the museum to the local school district to serve as a teaching museum. Every year, students from all over are able to view and interact with a collection of over 10,000 fascinating items, including an elephant foot, a Plains teepee, carved figurines, baskets, Inuit artifacts, old-time photographs, and much more.

The area surrounding our motel in Puyallup has a long history of maritime culture. This is the culture that the Foss Waterway Seaport seeks to share with visitors. If you have a passion for boats, ships, and the waters they sail upon, take the time to absorb the fascinating exhibits of this Tacoma museum.

The Seaport itself is the last surviving section of the timber frame warehouse that made up Tacoma’s waterfront for nearly a hundred years. Inside, you’ll be able to get up close to a wide array of engaging museum exhibits, including classic rowboats, canoes, boat models, and educational displays. The EMP Museum

Seattle’s famous Experience Music Project, or EMP Museum, is a celebration of America’s favorite music. Learn about the history of rock and roll from a series of displays and interactive exhibits, then live the rockstar experience in front of a virtual audience. Your admission ticket also gets you into the Science Fiction Museum, where you can see artifacts and costumes from your favorite sci-fi and fantasy epics.

On May 19th and 20th, at the AgriPlex, there’s the Washington Arms Collectors’ Show. The Washington Arms Collectors (WAC) is a non-profit corporation, a forum for collectors of arms and their accouterments for exchange and information in a setting of fellowship and camaraderie, in order to foster research, education and publication concerning arms and their relationship to history. It also seeks to broaden the interest of the general public in arms collecting consistent with applicable federal, state and local laws, ordinances, and regulations.

WAC puts on Washington state’s largest gun shows. The largest being in Puyallup, fills up to 1,200 tables (another in Monroe, over 300 tables) making a WAC show a major event. There’s no friendlier pro-gun event or one with a better selection of firearms, ammunition, knives, militaria and accessories. Only WAC members are able to buy, sell and trade firearms at the shows or carry firearms into any of the venues. Non-members and military who are interested have to pay admission.

The Spring Fair also brings music and entertainment. At Brew Park Stage, the Olson Bros band will showcase country music along with Washington beer and cider. Running January 24 – 28, 2018 is the state of Washington’s largest sportsmen’s show. The show opens January 24 with a packed line-up of family-friendly attractions, new expert speakers and past crowd-pleasers at the Washington State Fair Events Center in Puyallup.
What’s up? It’s the 31st Washington Sportsmen’s Show that offers over 150 hours of free “how to” seminars, camp cooking demonstrations, a kids’ free fishing event, lots of competition, and more. It’s the perfect time to begin planning outdoor adventures with professional guides, outfitters and other resources to assist in making fishing, hunting and wildlife-watching trips a reality.

See the first-ever kokanee tank at the show. It’s a display and demo show featuring dozens of catchable size kokanee salmon in a specially-built, thermostatically-controlled tank.

Then a teaching and demo show of Les Schwab Tires’ Indoor River showcasing who’s who in northwest fishing to teach and demonstrate a variety of river and stream fishing tactics, techniques and presentations of trout.

The Kids Trout Pond returns this year with 2,000 pounds of trout to catch at the show. All gear is provided, and it’s free with admission into the show for kids 12 and younger.

There’s Brett Stoffel’s survival seminar to help people overcome the odds and survive dire conditions. There are more than 40 hours of hunting and fishing seminars every day at the show. Admission is free. Oktoberfest Northwest Is Happening In Puyallup

A Little Town, A Big Celebration

In Puyallup, this October 6th to the 8th, Western Washington’s largest Munich-inspired festival is rolling out on two entertainment stages, called the 13th Annual Oktoberfest Northwest. It’s been 10 years since and the fun hasn’t stop. It will feature the biggest biergarten and dance hall with live entertainment and German grub and beer. Ms. Manuela Horn, the Queen of Oktoberfest and participant in the 2009 season of America’s Got Talent, will headline the event.

The rest of the attractions include the Stein Dash 5K, wiener dog races, stein holding, corn hole toss, beer pong, chicken dance and Kinderhaus/Family Fest Zone. You’ll find kids’ activities as well, including pumpkin decorating, scavenger hunt & more! There’s also the HammerschlagenÂŽ Tournament of Champions, featuring prizes and bragging rights.

The Hammerschlagen is one of the most addictive bar games ever since 2005. Contestants try to drive a nail into wood faster than their opponents. Entry to the Hammerschlagen is free but first come, first served; fantastic prizes to the top three winners. Kids can try their own version of the Hammerschlagen, with supervision of course.

This is authentic entertainment, planned from noon to almost midnight. An all-ages event and happening indoors, celebration pushes rain or shine. Admission is free from noon to 3pm on Friday. The cost is $12 for Friday after 3pm and Saturday. Sunday is half price ($6) thanks to the sponsorship of the News Tribune. There’s free parking in the blue lot (enter through the blue and gold gates). There’s also shopping for souvenirs at the German Corner.

The opening ceremony takes place at 8pm on Friday night in the Festhalle Main Stage with the tapping of the Firkin. There’s an Exclusive VIP Only Area with private bar located right by the Festhalle Main Stage in the main event with easy access to dance floor. A maximum capacity of 100 people can be accommodated on the floor per night.
