Seattle’s Best Damn Happy Hour

Are you looking for a great happy hour experience within reach of our motel in Puyallup? If you’re staying with us at the right time, consider Seattle’s Best Damn Happy Hour. This event comes to famous Seattle Center on the third Thursday of every month. On this day, find your way up to the Armory for beer, specialty cocktails, and a selection of delicious food offerings from the Armory’s diverse eateries, including pizza, barbecue, sandwiches, Mediterranean food, Mexican food, desserts, and more. Listen to some music, challenge your friends in a few games of giant chess and giant Jenga, belt out a few of your karaoke standards, and enter to win exciting raffle prizes like concert tickets.

Seattle’s Best Damn Happy Hour is held on every third Thursday from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm on the ground floor of Seattle Center’s Armory. There is no charge to get in, but only patrons of legal drinking age will be permitted inside the drinking area. Washington State History Museum

Maintained by the Washington State Historical Society, the Washington State History Museum is a fun and engaging place to learn more about the fascinating people and events that shaped our state. Take a walk through the past with the help of the walk-through dioramas that depict the life of the region’s early inhabitants. Visit the museum’s 1,800 square foot model railroad to learn more about the railroads that helped the state flourish. Take in an assortment of interactive exhibits, historical artefacts, and theatrical storytelling by a collection of famous figures from the past. From the rich cultures of the area’s indigenous peoples, to the women’s suffrage movement, to the mystery of DB Cooper, it’s all waiting for you at the Washington State History Museum.

Kitsap Forest Theater

There are many stunning and fascinating theater venues throughout the area around our motel in Puyallup, but very few combine the magic of the stage with the natural beauty of the outside world. If you are looking for a good outdoor theater, you can’t go wrong with the Kitsap Forest Theater.

Located in Bremerton, just an hour outside of Seattle, the Forest Theater is run by one of the oldest non-profit theater groups in the country. This community theater is nestled amid a stunning rhododendron preserve. It is here that you can sit in the shade of a conifer canopy and see quality, family-friendly musical theater inspired by the natural surroundings. The theater puts on two productions every year, one in the spring and another in the summer. Past productions have included Mary Poppins, Seussical, The Music Man, Shrek: the Musical, and many other old favorites. Rhododendron Species Botanical Garden

The Rhododendron Species Foundation & Botanical Garden is an organization dedicated to conserving the rhododendron species and giving the public a chance to experience these fascinating flowers as many of their natural habitats face destruction. Featuring over seven hundred different varieties of rhododendrons from around North America, Europe, and Asia, this garden is one of the world’s largest collections of the flower.

The rhododendrons are in bloom starting in January, reaching their peak from mid-March to mid-May. Even when the rhododendrons are not in bloom, there is always something to see. Visit the Victorian Stumpery, the world’s largest public stumpery, for an amazing fern display amid one hundred forty stumps and logs. Take in the Rutherford Conservatory for blossoming flowers throughout the year, including not only rhododendrons but also orchids and other companion plants.

Cougar Mountain

The region known as Cougar Mountain has a long and fascinating history, having served as the home for native hunters, miners, loggers, farmers, and even a missile site for the US Army. In the 1960’s, after these missile sites were decommissioned, King County assumed ownership of the land, electing to preserve this site of great natural beauty and historical significance for future generations.

Cougar Mountain Regional Wildland Park is 3,100 acres of protected Washington wildland, serving as a stunning representation of the area’s rich natural world. Here you can see mature second growth forests, streams, wetlands, cliffs, caves, and views of Lake Sammamish, the Cascade Mountains, and the nearby metropolitan areas. Visitors to the park enjoy spotting a variety of different bird populations, as well as bobcats, black bears, and a host of other fascinating creatures.

The Pacific Science Center

Back in 1962, during the Century Twenty-One World’s Fair, the United States Science Pavilion opened up in the shadow of the Space Needle. It was here that millions of visitors came to experience scientific wonders and the promise of the future. After the fair closed down, the Science Pavilion lived on as the Pacific Science Center, the first museum in the US founded as a center of science and technology. In 2010, the center was declared a City of Seattle Landmark.

The Pacific Science Center offers an exciting array of permanent and temporary exhibits, all designed to fascinate and educate. Take in the tropical butterfly house, the saltwater tide pool, the naked mole rat cam, the MovieBooth, the dinosaur exhibit, the insect village, and a whole lot more. Facilities even include a real IMAX movie theater, showcasing the latest blockbusters in stunning 3D.

Museum of History and Industry

The history of Seattle and the Puget Sound region is a rich and illuminating one. If you’d like to experience a fascinating blast from the Emerald City’s past, consider a visit to the Museum of History and Industry. It is here that you can see thousands of tools, costumes, furniture, art pieces, vehicles, and more from the people who made the area what it is today. See artefacts from the indigenous tribes and the early settlers. Delve into the Bezos Center for Innovation for a series of interactive exhibits and educational programs detailing the great thinkers of the region. Explore Seattle’s close relationship with the Sound via the Maritime Seattle exhibit. Take a walk through the development of the city via the True Northwest: the Seattle Journey. New and temporary exhibits are being added all the time!

Seattle Asian Art Museum

If you have an appreciation for Asian and Asian American culture, you’ve come to the right place. The area around our motel in Puyallup has been a favorite destination for immigrants from across the Pacific for many years, lending Seattle and the surrounding cities a strong and diverse Asian voice. And, if you’re looking for a great way to experience this voice, you can find it in the form of the Emerald City’s own Seattle Asian Art Museum.

An affiliate of the famous Seattle Art Museum, SAAM is devoted entirely to historical and contemporary work of Asian and Asian American artists. Here you can find works of Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Indian, Southeast Asian, and Himalayan artwork, all housed within a historic art-moderne building in Capitol Hill’s Volunteer Park. The facility also contains the Asian Art Museum Libraries, supporting the study of the Asian art found at SAM or SAAM. Drop by on the first Thursday of the month to take advantage of free admission!

2015 Washington State Fair
